Bishop Stephen Reed, MPA

Bishop Stephen Reed’s spiritual journey began at Grace A.M.E. Zion Church, South Bend, where he was active at the local level as well as the Chicago District Conference. He later transferred his membership to the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the Rev. Henry L. Giden, Sr. There he heard and responded to the call to preach the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. It was now time to hone his gift, and at the age of 24, he preached his first public sermon on July 11, 1987. He loved the church and poured his life into it, hence he always regarded this charge as a blueprint from God. Never one to settle for mediocrity, Bishop Reed took the reins of leadership at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in October of 1991.

Under his leadership he exposed the church to many national and international spiritual giants such as Rev. Dr. Clay Evans, Bishop Larry D. Trotter, Gospel legend, Cassietta George, the renowned Bolton Brothers and others. In December of 2008 Bishop Reed charted new waters to establish the Rhema Word International Ministries. His matchless resolve to balance social ministry with spiritual integrity has distinguished him as a man of character and respect. His attentive and sensitive manner has become the hallmark of his pastorate and through his careful guidance and leadership Bishop Reed’s ministry has become one of the most noted and respected ministries in the region. At a time when most men are content to rest on their laurels and look back over their life with contentment and satisfaction, Bishop Reed is a man willing to blaze new paths and pioneer a new movement. In 1993, when Bishop Paul S. Morton sent out a clarion call that would bring Pentecostal Baptist together from across the country, Bishop Reed was one of the first to hear and heed the summons of God to help “change a generation,” attending its first national conference in the city of New Orleans, LA. Bishop Reed stood boldly and rapidly became the local icon of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship movement in the Michiana area and was installed by Bishop Tavis L. Grant as Indiana North Central District Overseer. Bishop Reed was later selected by the Honorable Right Reverend Bishop Lester L. Williams, Presiding Prelate of the Community Churches of Christ International, to serve on its Bishop’s Council. Via this divine call he’s had the awesome privilege to pilgrim foreign missions and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ on the great soil of the motherland, South Africa. Bishop Reed’s establishment of Rhema Word International has accompanied an awesome vision to empower, transition and vitalize the universal body of Christ through the right now revealed WORD OF GOD. The assignment placed upon me this season is to build a mega people opposed to a building a mega church”. “If we are going to impact a nation, then we must first impact a people. It takes the empowered and prevalent Word of God to revive, restore and reposition the mindset and heart of man” says Bishop Reed.
